Coasting Along

We’ve taken a little trip south from home to check out a possible rally site at Macksville, NSW, for our Solos Motorhome Rally next April. I love being back on the road discovering new places and revisiting old favourites.

We stopped at Valla Beach on our way to Macksville. I’ve never been there before and loved it so much we went back on our way north to enjoy it all over again!

We only stopped overnight here but vowed to return as it was such a pretty spot. We were on a mission though to check out Macksville, only about 30 kms away.

Nambucca River at Macksville

Macksville is situated on the Nambucca River in northern New South Wales and is a quiet little backwater since being bypassed by the new M1 motorway.

Our meetings with representatives from the Show Society and Nambucca Valley Council were very productive so we joined some friends camping at Gumma Reserve for a couple of days before slowly wending our way north towards home. First stop – Valla Beach!

Back Creek to the sea.

There’s a footbridge that crosses Back Creek and takes you over the dunes to the ocean. It’s only a couple of hundred metres and definitely worthwhile.

Camping along the coast is an expensive exercise and certainly not something I can afford to do very often. Valla Beach Caravan Park offers a 50% deal during their quiet months, so $30 per night for a powered site made it possible to stop and enjoy Valla for a couple of nights.

Now it’s time to move on … and inland!

Where is Valla Beach?

  1. Looks like McLoughlin’s Beach in Gippsland, walk across the bridge to the surf and sand hills from the sheltered inlet. But this place would not be facing Bass Strait and the wind might be a little less, so not knocking you backwards.
