Oh I Do Love To Be Beside The Seaside …

Did you sing it in your head as you read it? I sure did as I wrote it 🎶🎤🎶

Day 8: Brixham. The plan was to go to Brixham inland and then follow the coastline on the way home… see a bit of the countryside as tourists do 🙂

The plan!

The reality was a bit different 😅. Yes, we got lost again! Missed the turn off to Totnes and ended up almost in Plymouth before going back where we had come from to find our planned destination of Brixham.

The reality!

We did finally make it to Brixham and enjoyed fish & chips on the waterfront as we ‘people watched’ over a glass of cider.

I’m sure every second person in Brixham had a dog – or two – and the waterfront esplanade was a seething mass of people and their pets.

There is a replica of The Golden Hind, the ship in which Sir Francis Drake circumnavigated the world from 1577 to 1580.

The look alike hillside houses have been painted in various colours as Brixham tries to live up to the reputation of Torbay as the English Riviera.

Shops lining the harbour sold fish dinners, bait, typically gaudy tourist mementos … and very good ice-cream! 🍦

It was a fun day out. We doubled the mileage we should have done and couldn’t find a spot to park near any of the famous ‘riviera’ beaches to snap our tourist photos, we drove down narrow English lanes that were only wide enough for one car, and caused chaos in the Aldi car park when we entered a one-way road the wrong way🙃

Were we lost? No, we just went a different way – and had fun doing it🤣🤣🤣
