Me On The Meon

Day 19: We enjoyed more wonderful family time when we left Emsworth to visit Barry & Jacky’s daughter Katie in the picture perfect village of East Meon.

I love these thatched cottages 😍
And another one!

Katie’s friend lives in the oldest house in East Meon which dates back to the 1500’s! Almost incomprehensible to this Australian as we have such a recent history in comparison- a mere 200 odd years!

Over 500 years old

The Meon river winds through the town under little stone bridges …

Meon River

The water was clear and flowing quite strongly and contributed to the overall ambience of this pretty village.

Many homes throughout this part of Hampshire are built using flint, a rough stone that almost has an opalescent appearance, so much so that I thought it looked like oyster shell.

Home built of flint.

A 200 year old yew tree stands proudly along our village walk. In 2023 it was declared to be a notable tree.

I never tire of the interesting buildings, whether they are substantial or quaint or quirky.

This little one was once the blacksmith’s forge
Modern cars seem quite incongruous!
The old
The new – built to look old!
The quaint
The quirky

We had a wonderful day. Our tour guide Barry did a brilliant job and the icing on the cake was a little family get together for afternoon tea and the walk around East Meon.

Photo bombed by Rodney the cat!

Our family catch ups continue as we head to Westbury, Dave’s old home town, and meet another cousin Carol. Life’s busy … and so enjoyable!
