Apparently each thatcher has their own ‘signature’ which is the pattern along the ridge cap. Here’s some examples.



There was a thatcher at work in the village but we weren’t able to stop. I wonder how long it takes them to do a roof? It’s good to know there are still skilled tradesmen to maintain these beautiful cottages. Apparently a roof needs replacing about every 20 years at a cost of around £20,000. That’s a lot of chook raffles! 🐓
