Loving Lake Windermere

I’ve been looking forward to visiting the Lake District and here we are!

Lake Windermere

Day 48: Heysham to Windermere. It was only about 50 kms but I think we did about 100 as we regularly take wrong turns and find alternate routes to our destination. That’s another way of saying we got lost – again!

The landscape has changed to rolling green hills rather than the steep slopes of the last few days and the fields are enclosed with drystone walls that really do make it look like a patchwork quilt.

Beautiful countryside

We arrived in Windermere a couple of hours before we could check in to our accommodation so decided to do a cruise on the lake. The weather was absolutely perfect so we joined hundreds of other holiday makers on the Swan at Ambleside for our leisurely journey to Bowness and back.

Our route

The sun was shining, the scenery was spectacular and the commentary just enough to point out interesting features along the way.

We tacked on a visit to the Windermere Jetty Museum, but I’ll save telling you about that for another time.

After checking in to our accommodation, The Rum Doodle, we decided on a romantic waterfront dinner at nearby Bowness.

It was a perfect end to a perfect day!
