We joined masses of other people today and went to the Giant’s Causeway. I suppose it’s something you have to do as a tourist but I have to say it was like watching ants crawl over cake!

I couldn’t believe so many people were allowed to clamber all over this famous landmark. It was impossible to appreciate the grandeur of it as buses disgorged their passengers and throngs arrived after a long walk down the roadway, all jibbering excitedly in different languages.

When we arrived we walked through the gift shop, as you do, but we resisted the temptation to buy a souvenir linen tea towel for £15 ($30)

We did, however, lash out and spend a couple of dollars each to catch the bus to the Causeway because I looked at the road disappearing into the distance and knew I would never make it there and back with my gammy knee.

I think we are spoilt in Australia with our sites of natural beauty. We don’t attract the hordes of people that I’ve seen here in the UK so there seems to be more opportunities to appreciate the natural state of ‘things’.
Dave made the observation that the rocks walking out to the pillars were shiny from the many feet that had stepped across them – he certainly noticed the difference from his visit 10 years ago! Is it a good thing or a bad thing that it is all so accessible? What will it be like in another 10 years?
The weather was changeable throughout the day and when we left to drive through the area known as the Glens of Antrim we had intermittent sunshine and the most glorious rainbow 🌈. I have never seen one so close 😍

It was a colourful display at the end of what was, at times, a grey day.
I’ll share the spectacular coastal scenery with you at another time. But here’s a teaser …
