We drove into Dent in the Yorkshire Dales today and stepped into a time warp – a heritage village of stone houses and narrow cobblestone roads – like a page from a picture book.

This morning we enjoyed breakfast in a farmhouse kitchen at our B&B at Kirtlebridge near Ecclefechan. I mean, with a name like that youโd have to stay at Ecclefechan wouldnโt you?

We have been so lucky with our accommodation, choosing places because the name appealed to us, that had good reviews on Booking.com, and were priced reasonably. And none have disappointedโฆ well , perhaps our teeny tiny room at Beer came close ๐คซ
Anyway, today, Day 60 of our UK trip, we farewelled Scotland and headed via the Yorkshire Dales to The Sun Inn at Dent. What a beautiful picturesque journey it was!

We stopped at the Crown & Cushion at Appleby-in-Westmoreland for a cream tea and walk across the bridge. The swiftly flowing river below was brown with all the topsoil washed down after the heavy rains of the last couple of days and there were quirky sculptures along the river bank.

The road into Dent was narrow as it wound its way down into the valley. Of all the places weโd booked to stay The Sun Inn was the one we were doubtful about. Itโs a community run pub and the check in instructions were really haphazard – like, there may be someone there to open it up for you but if there isnโt ring the number on the door. Someone will come in about 10 minutes – if they can!
We really neednโt have worried! The pub was open, the bar was busy and we climbed the rickety stairs to a big bedroom with views to the hills beyond.

After settling in we explored the cobbled streets and quaint houses – and fell in love with Dent.

Weโre off to dinner tonight at the George & Dragon ๐, a 20 metre walk from The Sun Inn down those cobblestones. Could be an interesting walk home later tonight. ๐
