Hello Hong Kong πŸ‡πŸ‡°

On Sunday we said farewell to the Westerdam, our luxury floating home for the last 14 days, and hello to Hong Kong. We had booked a disembarkation tour to fill in time before checking into our hotel and it was a great introduction to this bustling city.

Hello Hong Kong

Here are some of the highlights of our tour.

  1. Our first stop was in Aberdeen where we boarded our highly decorated boat for our trip

We travelled through the old fishing boats of the boat people who live on board although not so many do that these days apparently. There was such a stark contrast between the old and new!

2. Travelling from one stop to another took us through city streets and different precincts in Hong Kong such as Financial, Cultural and Government.

The high rises reminded me of the dense housing we saw in China earlier this year. Hong Kong has a population of about 8 million and although it has a total land area of around 1,100 sq kilometres the majority live in Kowloon & Hong Kong Island, total area of approximately 130 sq kilometres. No wonder it’s a sea of skyscrapers.

3. Our last stop, and the place we left the tour was at Peak Hill.

The bus trip to the Peak was one of the scariest rides I’ve been on with its steep narrow road and frightening bends but we made it to the top without any mishaps. Now for the funicular railway down the hill!

The Peak Funicular Tram

It was a hazy but spectacular view.

It was then time to say goodbye to our travelling companions and hello to the rest of our Hong Kong journey.

PS: It was a special day today … Dave didn’t lose a single thing 🀣🀣🀣
