China Calling – Day 1

It’s going to be a long day! We left home at Glass House Mountains at 7.45 this morning to arrive in plenty of time for our 10.15 flight from Brisbane … and it was just as well we had time up our sleeve!

20 minutes or so down the road Dave goes “Oh no! I’ve left my bag with wallet and money at home hanging on the chair!” A quick U-Turn at Burpengary and we were on our way home to collect it! Bag retrieved, all good, we made it to the airport with enough time to have a coffee before we boarded our flight.

Our first travel leg today.

We bravely did online check in, then boarding passes and pushed our luck by checking in our own bags. Feeling very tech savvy after that successful experience! 🤓

The flight to Sydney was smooth and for me, at least, entertaining as I sat next to a Qantas pilot who chatted the whole way about his family, camping trips and his passion, bike riding. He had recently cycled from the Gold Coast to Coffs Harbour, some 450kms, in about 24 hours. Mad I say!

We’re now at the International airport in Sydney with several hours to kill before we can check in and board our flight to China at 9.45 tonight. Our first stop is Guangzhou then on to Beijing where hopefully a comfortable hotel bed will be waiting for a good sleep before we hit the tourist trail. First stop Tianamin Square.

9 hour 50 minute flight from Sydney to Guangzhou 😴

I’m not sure what social media restrictions there are in China. I don’t think we’ll be able to use Facebook, What’s App and Instagram so communication may be limited. I’m hoping my blog will make it through their tight internet barriers so you might like to follow http://www.thedailysnailmail.com to share our adventures.
