This little church is just outside the entry to the Lighthouse Holiday Park in Burnett Heads, Queensland.

I stopped to take a photo of it because it was strikingly different with its battened walls – almost a little ‘Bavarian’ in appearance.

As I walked towards the rear where the bell tower was one of the parishioners arrived to clean and invited me inside to have a look. The interior continued the ‘German barn architectural theme with the angled ceiling and exposed beams.

There were some lovely old lanterns around the walls and hanging over the aisle too.

Such an unusual design in a semi tropical beachside area of Australia. Perhaps it’s design was influenced by its sponsor, Christian Mittelheuser, who donated the land?
