A day trip from Beer took us along the coast through Axmouth to Lyme Regis and back through the pretty village of Colyford.

Day 28: Seaton, Axmouth, Lyme Regis, Colyford, Beer – day tripping!

This area of coastline is known as the Jurassic Coast.

We didn’t look for fossils but did look for photo opportunities …

Seaton is virtually joined to Beer so was our first stop. Then it was over the River Axe , a shallow, non-navigable river that flows out to Lyme Bay at Axmouth.

We were able to pull into a hotel carpark to get a few photos of this pretty inn covered in creepers at Axmouth

Lyme Regis was our next coastal stop where we walked along The Cobb, a breakwater that forms a safe mooring harbour.

You’ll see in this photo of the beach that everyone is crowded down the end closest to the camera. That’s because this was a sand beach. The empty beach in the distance was pebbles and not popular at all.

The tide was out when we were there so the harbour was emptied of water and the boats were stuck in the mud.

The Cobb has a long history, first mentioned in 1294, although it has been destroyed by storms and rebuilt over the years. We shared a fish burger and bottle of cider sitting on a park bench on The Cobb and people watched before completing our circuit home through the pretty village of Colyford.

Back in Beer we wandered over the road to The Anchor and had dinner in the beer garden overlooking the beach.

A sprinkle of rain sent us hurrying home to our accommodation for the evening. Tomorrow is a new day and a new destination.
