A Day In The Bay – 1

I’m housesitting in Hervey Bay, Queensland, at the moment – and will be for the next few months – so it’s a great opportunity to share with you some of the beautiful sights and experiences in the area.

Hervey Bay is perfectly located about 300kms north of the state capital Brisbane and is famous for seasonal whale watching and as a jumping off point to visit Fraser Island, now known as K’gari (Gahree), the largest sand island in the world.

Today I visited the Orchid House at the Hervey Bay Botanical Gardens. What a feast for the eyes!

The most beautiful blooms were on display so here is a selection of them for you to enjoy 😊. Please don’t ask what varieties they are – I was there purely for the spectacular display.

Aren’t they beautiful? The lady in attendance told me they have hundreds of varieties in the greenhouse so they constantly change the display as the different ones bloom.

Where is it?

You’ll find the Orchid House just inside the entry to the Botanical Gardens on Elizabeth Street, Urangan. It’s free to enter and there are tables and chairs under cover and overlooking the lake right outside the orchid house so it’s a perfect spot to enjoy a morning tea or picnic lunch.
