Road Tripping

Last Monday we left our housesit in Hervey Bay after nearly 9 months of a comfortable off- road lifestyle.

The things we take for granted in a house like unlimited power and water, daily showers, a dishwasher and excellent TV reception are fast becoming a distant memory as we shrink our life to motorhome living.

We shared our first 3 nights away with our camping group, The Kingfishers, on a planned ‘pub crawl’. First stop was Apple Tree Creek and the pub had camping out the back and put on a great meal for us. Dave & I shared a garlic prawn pizza and still had leftovers to take home!

Camped up at Apple Tree Creek Hotel

It wasn’t far to Biggenden, our next destination and another great pub dinner where roast lamb was the order of the day for me but Dave chose Chicken Parmigiana – and it was the biggest one I’ve ever seen!

On the way to our final night with the group we stopped at a great little coffee shop in Coalstoun Lakes, which really is just a dot on the map, so such a pleasant surprise to find this gem of a place.

Our last night with the group was at the Gayndah Showgrounds where a maxi taxi ferried the group to the local Grand Hotel for another bang up meal with good friends. Gayndah is a major citrus growing area and home to The Big Orange.

Now, I have a confession to make 😱 Dave and I did some sightseeing on the way to Gayndah. We took a detour to Paradise Dam and unfortunately ran over a very dead kangaroo- like, so dead it was dusty skin & bones – but boy did it stink! That smell has lodged itself under the vehicle for everyone to continue enjoying ?? for who knows how long! It’s a mighty awful pong! So at Gayndah everyone is complaining about this awful smell but Dave & I just shut our mouths and didn’t confess until it was time to leave the next morning. I think they were glad to see us go 🤣🤣🤣

The weather warmed up quickly to over 30° so we’ve spoilt ourselves on power for a couple of nights before heading off to some bush camping at Calliope.

We’ve only travelled about 450kms of our 1000km trip to visit Dave’s daughter in Mackay. Here’s where we’ve been so far!

I love being back on the road 😍
