Road Tripping 6

Last Thursday we arrived in Mackay and ventured half an hour further north to Kuttabul to visit Dave’s daughter Linda and her husband Brian. This is really the purpose of our trip but we had time up our sleeve to get here as they were away in Brisbane until today.

Although Linda had insisted that everything was in readiness for our visit the day they came home there turned out to be some confusion so we sat at their front gate for several hours waiting for them to arrive.

Happy hour came and went with us enjoying our glass of wine in the air conditioned comfort of the car 🚗

Happy hour 🍻

Dinner time rolled around and by this time we were starting to worry that there had been an accident or car trouble that had held them up. We had no phone reception here at all so there was no communication in or out. About 7pm we decided to move into the motorhome and cook something to eat and lo and behold we had one bar on the phone. We rang Linda and her phone went to message bank so we rang her daughter to find out any news. Imagine our surprise when we were told they had been home all the time we were sitting at the front gate!

We camped outside for the night.

A few angry words were exchanged, more from relief that they were ok than anything else, so we decided to sleep in the van outside the property that night and start afresh the next day.

That’s Thursday done and dusted! Not what we expected but … let’s chalk it up to experience and move on.

Outlook from the front gate.
