The Best Laid Plans …

We’re on our way to a Solos Rally in Elmore Victoria and thought we had everything planned just right – but life decided to throw us a couple of curve balls.

First up, our housesit came to an end a few days earlier than expected. Fortunately our homeowner, Nellie, offered to stay at her sister’s place down the road while we finished ‘downsizing’ to our motorhome for the next 12 months and that gave us a little breathing space to get better organised.

We left Hervey Bay on Monday, 16 February and headed 30kms south to the Maryborough Showgrounds where Dave and I will be running a motorhome rally in September this year. Three days here gave us ample opportunity to make local contacts for our future rally. We’re really excited about the opportunities we have found and can’t wait to put some of them into place for September.

Thursday was a lovely catch up with cousins Geoff & Lynn at the Glasshouse Mountains where we camped overnight in their front yard. Their property is a little piece of heaven looking straight out towards spectacular Coonowrin and Mt Beerwah.

Then the wheels fell off … well, not literally … but this picture tells the story!

Hitching a Ride

Our little red car decided to stop working at, of all places, the dump point in Blackbutt. For those non-travellers the dump point is where you empty your on board toilet – not the prettiest place on a journey. Of course, it’s Friday afternoon so the chances of anything being fixed today are remote. So as our little car was towed away we made our way to the Yarraman caravan park.

Although this wasn’t a planned stop the caravan park was in a lovely location perched up on top of a hill catching the cool breezes. It had lush green grass and the amenities were excellent. Just as well because we ended up having three nights here and only picked up the little red car 🚗 about 10 o’clock yesterday. It is now humming along nicely with a new fuel pump and a new fuel filter – and we’re humming along with considerably less in our bank account!

We’re now at Inglewood RV Stopover where we drove in to be greeted by fellow Solo Janice who is also heading to Elmore.

We’ll be going our separate ways today and meet up again some 1500 kilometres further south at our Elmore Solos Network Rally in March.

In the meantime I’ll keep you posted on our journey- and hope it runs to plan from here on in!
