The Cistern Chapel

This is not a spelling mistake! It’s a clever tourist promotion by the little town of Maryborough in regional Queensland, Australia

The entryway

They have developed their own version of the Sistine Chapel, painting glorious murals and decorating lavish facilities at the public toilets at the Town Hall.

When you enter the nursing room it activates bird songs and croaking frogs and the lights hang from the ceiling in magical hot air balloons.

The children’s room

A little further along the hall the ladies room was adorned with murals of gorgeous women in flowing gowns and had the most OTT (over the top) toilet I have ever seen!

The golden ‘throne’

A clever play on words, someone with a great imagination and various artists have created a quirky attraction that draws tourists to Maryborough to view with amazement their very own Cistern Chapel.
