My GPS Was Right – Again!

Lee, the little man who lives inside my GPS, gave me plenty of chances to turn around but did I take them? NO! I stubbornly pushed on quite sure there would be a road back to the highway.

I’d detoured to Imbil to find the bakery that sells amazing vanilla slices.

I came, I bought, I ate –

and then, instead of turning back the way I came I decided to go straight ahead. Little did I know straight ahead took me away from my immediate destination of Gympie and I ended up in the opposite direction at Borumba Dam. 😱

You can see by the terrain on the map above that it was a hilly, winding road. Several gradients were 10%, both uphill and down, and I was constantly changing gears in my old campervan, Brutus the Beast as I slowly wound my way up the steep slopes.

This road surely goes somewhere! Well yes, it did! 13 kilometres on, over 4 single lane bridges, around hairpin bends and creeping along in second gear it came to an end at Borumba Dam.

So then, when I had no other choice, I listened to Lee, did a u-turn, drove the winding 13 kms back to Imbil and took the road I should have been on if I’d only listened to him in the first place.

A saying I’ve used often was very appropriate today….

I’m never lost I just went a different way!
