Settle Down? Not Me!

It’s two months since we arrived home from our nine weeks in the UK and almost all of the first month home was lost in a Covid haze. Apart from a couple of very lethargic days I felt like I had a dreadful head cold, which was more annoying than anything 🤨

After only a month at home it was time to get organised to go to Hervey Bay for some dog sitting duties for the following month, October. Although I don’t find this a ‘duty’ at all as I have looked after these fur kidz before and love my time with them. So this is what my October looked like!

October 1-10 Kanzi

Kanzi is a Basenji and I have looked after her off and on over the last five years or so, so we are old friends. She’s quite independent but loves her walks. The unusual thing about basenjis is that they don’t bark but rather ‘yodel’.

They also have a rather cute curled up tail.

I got a hell of a fright one afternoon when Kanzi had ‘a bit of a turn’, as nanna would have said. She staggered around for a minute or so and looked completely disoriented… imagine a vague look that says ‘Where am I?’ ‘Who are you?’ and ‘ What am I doing here?’ I called out frantically to Helen next door who bundled us off to the vet but of course, by the time we got there, Kanzi was perfectly normal again so whatever happened is a mystery.

A pet sitter’s worst nightmare! That some disaster would happen to a pet I’m looking after! On this occasion though, disaster averted!

October 11 – 21 Bundaberg

With Hervey Bay so close to Bundaberg it was a perfect opportunity to catch up with friends and family who live there. Dave came up in the motorhome and we had a lovely 10 days together.

We spent a few days at friend Lorraine’s farm where we enjoyed some lovely fresh farm produce.

What was once sugar cane fields as far as the eye could see is now mainly macadamia plantations like this one adjoining Lorraine’s property.

Macadamia

The koi we’re enjoying their freshly cleaned pond

And the chickens were enjoying the food scraps

We also stayed in ‘town’ at the RV Park which was a great location for family catch-ups. One night my nephew Simon, Dave and I went to a local pub for their trivia night. We came sixth out of 17 teams, which I thought was a pretty good result!

It was our lucky night! Each table was given three lucky number tickets. First number out of the barrel? Ticket 495 – yay, that’s us! A free bottle of wine … thank you very much!

But wait … there’s more! At the end of one of the rounds we had to write a number between 1 and 98 on the answer sheet. After the Trivia Comp was finished they opened up a box containing only one number written on a piece of paper by one of the bar staff at the start of the night. Number 78! Yay! That’s us again. $200 cash, thank you very much!

We LOVE trivia nights now 🤣🤣🤣

October 21 – November 2

Back to Hervey Bay to a favourite place. I love this house and I love the pets ❤️

I’m only a block back from the beach which makes for lovely walks with the dogs and a top spot to meet friends for coffee or lunch.

And being so close to the beach what’s better than a Beach House!

So, as you can see my dog sitting duties are more a pleasure than a duty. And the bonus is enjoying the antics of Koa who really knows how to win this girl’s heart ❤️

Tomorrow I go back home for a few days before returning to the Hervey Bay Area to look after two new doggies for three weeks, which will take me through until the end of November. I’m almost a ‘local’!

  1. It sounds like you’re living your best life Rosemary I’m so happy for you. We just spent 12 days in Bali with our daughter and her partner. It was lovely but we miss travelling with a caravan so I suppose we just have to adjust and do other types of travelling
