The 100 kilometre trip along The Lachlan Valley Highway from Forbes to Condobolin is peppered with side trips to sculpture installations that form part of Sculpture Down the Lachlan They’re usually only a couple of hundred metres off the main road and they created an interesting diversion as we headed to our next campsite at Gum Bend Lake.

I didn’t realise some of the sculptures were in Forbes so we missed a few of them at the start. The first one we became aware of was amazing! Literally amazing !

A few kilometres further and we detoured again, this time to The Tower

We didn’t find this quite so ‘amazing’ as it was reminiscent of a tall dilapidated water tower or broken down fire spotting tower. However, if the purpose of art is to get a reaction it achieved its aim.
The next one was one of our favourites – Bird in Hand

There were two installations at our next stop – Sonata

… and Brumbies Run

Within – Without did not impress but there was a freezing cold wind blowing so hard when we were there that it probably influenced our viewing 🫤

A 6 metre high solitary figure of an aborigine dominated the landscape at our next stop. It was titled Heart of Country.

We’re almost at Condobolin but there were still two more art installations before we arrive. The first was Between the Silence and the Heartbeat

This was a reflection on the so called ‘indifference’ of white people to the history of our indigenous people. These generalised assumptions really get my back up!
The last Sculpture on this art trail was called Wandering and Dave and I both related to its theme and form as we ‘wandered’ through it.

It certainly depicts our wandering lifestyle.
Well, we have arrived at our campsite so for now it’s goodbye from him

And it’s goodbye from me 😛

Next adventure – we’re off to see Utes in the Paddock, another quirky art installation in Condobolin.
PS: I have posted links to the sculptures on each one so if you want to find out more about them, the artist, the intention behind them and how they were constructed just click on each link.

Very.interesting some of the smaller towns in Australia have very interesting things to look at. Enjoy enjoy and Stay Safe and Well both.x
These remind me a little of the Tin Horse Highway in WA although these are very professional. Perhaps it was the jumping in and out of the car to take photos that triggered the memory 😜
