Toompine is south of Quilpie on the way to Thargomindah, way out west in Queensland. The Pub offers cold beer, hot food and a place to pull up for the night.

Rocket, the publican, is friendly and welcoming and happy to give directions to The Cemery, another local attraction. Really, where else in the world would a mis-spelled sign become a tourist draw card?

Something obviously went wrong between the idea and the execution of this sign, but they do say it’s the thought that counts. I’m sure the spelling isn’t important to those that dwell there.

Rocket also offers accommodation at the pub, but I’m not sure that these dongas would live up to the classy name of Toompine Terraces they have been given!

I was happy to camp in the paddock, enjoy the company of fellow travellers- and tick another destination off my bucket list ✅
