In the Southern Hemisphere the Tropic of Capricorn is the southernmost latitude where the sun can be seen directly overhead.

In Australia the Tropic of Capricorn passes through Rockhampton on the East Coast, about 30 kilometres north of Alice Springs in the centre of Australia and north of Carnarvon on the west coast. I have just crossed the mark north of Alice Springs 🚐

It somehow seems a lot more significant when travelling through the desert rather than a major coastal town. My next major marker will be on the west coast as I make my way around Australia- as they say, I’m doing the loop!
