Last night we attended the opening night of an exhibition of art by my very talented friend Kristina Foyster.

It was held in a wonderful community art space in Moree, New South Wales, where Krissi currently lives, and was supported by the local council who printed her catalogue and sponsored the promotion of the exhibition.
Where is Moree?
Moree is pretty close to the border of NSW and Queensland, about 7 hours from Sydney and 5.5 hours from Brisbane

There was a brief Welcome to Country ceremony, a local youth group played music 🎶 (a bit too loud to have a conversation 🫤) and I was asked to share one of my poems!
The theme of the exhibition was My Australia so my style of poetry, inspired by travelling Australia, was on point. Also, I had just the right one that I had written recently about taking a local back road when we passed through Moree on our way south a few weeks ago.
Croppa Creek
We thought we’d take the back road
from Inglewood to Croppa Creek
But that wasn’t the smartest decision
that we had made that week,
For the road was rough and dusty
- and we were only two-wheel drive
But once our decision had been made
We were determined to survive!
So we rode those corrugations like a rodeo cowboy
And when it tried to buck us off on every bend
We gripped the steering wheel more tightly and held on for dear life
We weren’t ready yet to meet our end.
So we zigzagged, dodging potholes, over cattle grids and causeways
and we found the well worn wheel ruts on the side
Tho’ this road was sent to try us as it threw us to and fro
We were determined we would win this ride.
We were praying for the tar – it surely couldn’t be too far
for we’d travelled 20ks on this rough streak
And it wasn’t very long before we sang our victory song
We had survived that ride to camp at Croppa Creek.
Short – but sweet – I hope 🤞
I’ve flipped the pages in Kristina’s catalogue to give you an idea of her work – which, believe me, is so much better in real life!

And here’s how they looked hung in the gallery

It was a very successful evening and comes off the back of Krissi taking out First Prize for one of her landscapes at the Moree Show a week ago. Such a talented friend I have 🥰
Oh, by the way, 5 art works sold by the end of opening night! Congratulations!

Well done to the Artist and the poet. 🤩
