Achacha to Bagpipes

We’re not dancing the cha-cha but we are tasting this unusual tropical fruit from Bolivia. Its original name is Achachairu but us Aussies are known to abbreviate everything so here it has become achacha! I want to dance every time I say it 🤣🤣💃🏻

Achacha Fruit

Just south of Townsville in tropical North Queensland is Australia’s first and only commercial orchard of this interesting fruit – and we had the opportunity to camp between the rows of trees and learn about this venture introducing a new fruit to Australia. If you click on the link above you can find out so much more than I’m sharing with you here.

Camped between the achacha trees

Bruce, the owner, is a great storyteller and offered us a tour of the plantation and with his entertaining commentary it was a highlight of our stay.

Here’s Bruce!

The other highlight was sharing a campfire with fellow campers, Peter and Leonie but unfortunately I didn’t share my bottle of champagne so cooking dinner that night was a bit of a challenge! 🍾🥂

We moved on from the orchard to the Dam Fine Rally in Townsville, out at the Ross River Dam, which is how it got its name😅. We’re catching up with friends and fellow motorhomers for a few days and enjoying a variety of entertainment. Yesterday we were woken up by the local bagpipers …

I did take a great video of their performance but unfortunately can’t share the music with you because of my dreadful photography skills 🤣🤣

We’re here until Wednesday when Dave flies down to Brisbane for a wedding while I’m going to lock myself away and work on aspects of the motorhome rally we’re running in September. The days are disappearing off the calendar far too quickly … so much to do, so little time 😱
