We left Lake Proserpine today and headed further north towards Townsville. There was a mist over the lake as we drove away and headed towards Home Hill where friends I hadn’t seen for 6 or 7 years were staying. It’s catch up time!
I had met Jo and Graeme out at Yaraka in Western Queensland where they worked in the pub and although keeping in touch on Facebook this was our first opportunity to meet up on our separate travels. A lovely coincidence that we were both in the same area at the same time. Serendipity??
We travelled to Home Hill through cane country where the first harvests are already being processed at the several sugar mills in the area.
Jo & Graeme are staying at the Burdekin Cane Farm which has camping accommodation and does tours of the cane burns. They were lucky enough to see one last night and Joanne shared this photo on Facebook.
We’re camped tonight in an orchard of Achacha fruit. We’re having a tour tomorrow so I’ll let you know all about it in my next blog post. It’s pronounced like the dance with an ‘a’ at the start – and I have to tell you it makes me want to dance whenever I say it out loud. 🤣🤣🤣
