The Oh Deere Farm Stay was so friendly we didn’t want to leave so we relaxed and enjoyed a second day and night there.

The owners like to support the local community so they shuttled us in their vehicles to the Bowls Club for $7 burgers on Friday night.
All the campers who went swelled the local crowd by another 20 people and although the burgers were cheap (great value too!) by the time we bought a drink or two and some raffle tickets we certainly made a contribution to the local economy 😊

After the raffles were drawn we were ferried back to camp taking a short cut through the cane fields – after all, who needs a road when you have a 4WD 😂
We said our reluctant goodbyes to Karinda and Donna, who had looked after us so well, to move further north towards our Townsville destination.

Most of us needed to shop so we were off bright and early to Proserpine to stock up our cupboards and fuel up for the next stage of our journey. Today we are travelling about 200kms, which is a bit of a change for us as around 50kms is more the norm. 🤣🤣🤣. We joke about the massive distances we’ve done each day but hey, the journey is what it’s all about!
A few also detoured into Bowen to buy fresh prawns at the fisherman’s co-op and sit by the shore to enjoy them for lunch. There’s nothing like a fresh prawn sandwich.

Our destination today ( Saturday) was the Gumlu Tavern where they offer free camping out the back in an old caravan park that is no longer operating. There are no amenities, so to stay here you must be fully self contained, which means toilet and sink/basin on board.

It was pizza night at the pub tonight so we wandered over to join the locals and enjoy a delicious pizza around the fire pits. A glass of red wine, good conversation, a roaring fire… what more could anyone want? I’m one lucky lady! Life’s good!
