Be Careful What You Wish For!

We wished for a tail wind and … Here’s what we woke up to today😱

Day 5 Nature Wins Again

We have westerly winds, a perfect tail wind for our journey east, but it’s blowing around 50 kms an hour with gusts to 75 kph! It’s just too dangerous to be on the road! And look what it’s done to the temperature 😳

So it’s an inside day, stuck at the Nullarbor Roadhouse sitting out this violent wind that is rocking the van from side to side. Time to catch up on some reading … but also the right place to consider how the Nullarbor got its name.

Nullus = No: Arbor = Trees

Nullarbor- No trees, and the landscape for miles is low scrubby bushes and grassy plains. It is certainly flat and tree-less and definitely well named as the Nullarbor Plain!

Day 5 Stats

  • Fuel – none used – that’s a big saving!
  • $20 for a second night at the Nullarbor Roadhouse Caravan Park
  • $15 for one of the best burgers I’ve had for years – real meat patty, bacon, egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato and of course … beetroot. Delicious.
  • Won Bush Rummy but struggled to win at Sequence today 😅
