Chomp! That’s One Big Bight!

Someone took a bite out of Australia and left a bight! It’s called the Great Australian Bight and today we visited Head of Bight. What’s a bight?

Day 6 Head of Bight

The wind died down overnight so a short trip, only 15 kms , to the turn off to the Head of Bight. This is a top spot for whale watching in season as Southern Right Whales come here to calf before going back south in September. There are extensive boardwalks leading out over the cliffs for the best views … and if we could see forever there is nothing between here and Antarctica.

Our stop tonight is about 100 kms west of Ceduna where there is a quarantine checkpoint, so dinner is loaded with vegetables that we would otherwise have to bin as they can’t be taken in to South Australia.

Day 6 Stats

  • Travelled 230kms
  • Head of Bight entry fee $7 (off season, seniors concession)
  • Who won Cards and Sequence today? (definitely not me!). Congratulations Erin, you were on a winning streak and couldn’t do a thing wrong! 👏🏻👏🏻
